The Voyager Station is aiming to be the first commercial space hotel expected to open in 2027. This project is hosted by John Blincow, President of the Gateway Foundation and former pilot, has plans to accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members in the space hotel. Blincow runs Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), a consturction company which will be participating and spearheading this project. This hotel will be the corporation's first major project, and first commercial station with artificial gravity.
Orbital Assembly is the World's First Large Scale Space Construction Company. Blincow says to Daily Mail, "This is will be the next industrial revolution." The station will feature a series of pods from the Gateway Foundation attached to the outside of the rotating ring, and some can even be purchased by entities for space research such as, NASA. He adds, the rotation aspect of the station is "vital" since without gravity for long periods of time, people are not viable on a space station. Especially when some might want to stay for longer periods of time for work obligations.
The Voyager Station will feature similar amenities to that of a cruise ship such as a cinema, themed restaurants and health spa. For longer stays, guests can access gym, kitchen, bar, and other essential facilities that will be offered in 'modules' attached to the outermost series of rings. The other 24 modules will be not only be crew quarters, but hotel operations and can also be leased or sold to private companies and governments.
The concept of the Voyager station originated from an idea by Wernher von Braun, an architect of the 1950s NASA Apollo program. Braun proposed a wheel-shaped habitat spinning to create artificial gravity. The Voyager Station is similar idea on a larger scale. This project by Blincow originated in 2012, following the launch of the Gateway Foundation combined with the 2018 establishment of the OAC. The corporation began to participate in the project with goal to open a fully operational commercial space hotel by 2027.
